Verity vs Oracle Enterprise vs PDF Index Assistant applied to full-text indexing and search

Topic:
With the large number of files being stored on office networks, it is very beneficial to be able to do full text search of the contents of these files as though the data were in one or more databases.

This presentation compares the features and mechanics of using Verity, Oracle Enterprise Search and PDF Index Assistant as a means to organize and index the contents of selected files on a project or office-wide basis.

This presentation compares the use of these search capabilities from within a Cold Fusion application using several gigabytes of PDF files combined with the contents of various Oracle tables.

Bio:
Arden has been producing home-grown application in FoxPro and/or Cold Fusion for the past 20 years beginning in the days when FoxPro for DOS and MS-DOS was King.

Recently he has been using Cold Fusion 5 through 8 to build data-maintenance and reporting applications that run on both government and private company Intranets using Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and Access backends.

Concurrent with the above, he has been using Visual FoxPro and its capable report generator to build Data Analysis and Reporting client server applications using the same database backends used with Cold Fusion.

Currently Arden is working on building a front-end set of data cleansing and Analysis/Reporting modules based on data extracted from Remedy (a help Desk/Service Management solution) in need of enhanced reporting features.
